Everywhere you look there are graphic tees. They can be filled with a quirky joke or meaningful saying. Sometimes just a believe brand. No matter how much we wish to believe that it’s just a shirt, a shirt is never just a shirt. That shirt was chosen for a reason.
I partnered with Thread Tank to select two shirts that have a special meaning to me. These are shirts that I feel like represent me, show my personality, and mean something to me. They believe in the phrase “Stories You Can Wear”. In an effort to prove that statement true, I am going to share with you the shirts that I chose and the story behind them.
Mama Bee
This 3/4 sleeve shirt immediately jumped out at me. The first reason would obviously be that my brand (my blog + social media channels) is “Queen of the Bee Hive”. When I married my husband, a family friend that referred to herself as ‘Queen Z’ began to call me ‘Queen B’. The queen of the household with the last name Barnes. Sounds simple enough. I continued to take on that nickname, referring to my home as the ‘bee hive’. From there came the easily put together brand. The ‘Mama Bee’ shirt pulled at my heart strings because not only am I the queen of our hive, but I am the mama bee for my kids. I am the keeper of the hive. The queen, the wife, the mama.
The 3/4 sleeve shirt comes in a light grey and is slightly off the shoulder. It feels like you are wearing a sweatshirt, pajamas even. My favorite feature is the honeycomb detail where the word ‘mama’ sits. Such a cute addition to the design.
Think like a Queen
This t-shirt is easily my favorite. In many households everyday, men go off to work to support their family and home. They’re the king of the castle if you will. As the wife, stay at home mom, and keeper of our home – I am the queen of the castle. Each day I make decisions for my family, our home, pets, and so many other things. If I am ever second guessing my choices, I remind myself to think like a queen. A queen rules over others and makes the best possible decisions for them. That is what I do everyday for my family.
The heather rouge color of this t-shirt is beautiful (it also comes in two other colors. Just girly enough without being super in your face. It fits true to size and is so soft.
Next time you go out and see someone wearing a shirt with a saying, read it thoroughly. Think about what that shirt might mean to them and why they might have chosen it. Every shirt tells a story without even having to have a conversation. I bet you will think a little harder about the story you are wearing next time you get dressed.
