Although the school year may not look the way that everyone had hoped, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth celebrating. For holidays, special occasions, change of seasons, etc. putting together little baskets is one of the ways I make things special for my kids.
To celebrate the school year, I gathered some necessary and fun supplies to give my little’s altogether. Some of the things I included are playful and will be enjoyed by the kids. While the others are for learning and will help the kids along the way.
I started with the basics – a folder, notebook, and new packs of crayons, markers, colored pencils. These were grabbed in the school supply section of Target. I also grabbed a fun pencil case, flashcards, glue sticks, tape, and scissors (for cutting practice).
The dollar spot was a great place to pick up a few helpful tools like dry erase files (for writing practice that can be erased and reused), letter and number writing practice booklets, flash card games (word completion and counting) with flash card case to hold them, erasers (for counting practice), and supportive/celebratory stickers.

For a little fun, I grabbed a pack of apple shaped and motivational quote dry erasers for the files. It probably wasn’t necessary, but I also grabbed new water bottles for the kids with happy school related quotes on them.
With everything put together in an unfinished wood basket from the dollar spot (for $5 each) then added name plates like the ones they’d have on their desks which have shapes, left and right hands, and the alphabet. I attached the name plates with clothes pin that I found at Walmart.
Whether you’re looking at homeschool, virtual school, in person school, or some hybrid version of them all.. you’re the one your kids are going to look at to see how they should be reacting.
Be excited.
Be encouraging.
Be happy.
Be strong.
The school year will give back exactly what you give it. Help your kids in anyway that you can, find others to help when you can’t. Don’t be afraid to admit that you nee help. We have got this mom’s, we can do it!
