do you netflix + chill?

Now, I know what you’re thinking. If you’re in your teens and early twenties, that question has a completely different meaning than what I am actually asking.

I can assure you that I am actually asking if you binge watch Netflix and sit on your couch for so long that Netflix has to check in and make sure you’re still alive.

Because I do. Oh boy, do I ever.

Sometimes when our children are away, my husband and I make a day of sitting on the couch to watch whatever shows need catching up on. I know, sounds so romantic. But once you hit a certain point in your relationship (usually after having children) there is only so much going and doing you can do before you really look forward to a day of doing nothing.

To commemorate all of this rain + binge watching that I have been doing (and I know I’m not alone) I have complied a list of our all-time favorite “watch it without me and I will beat you” shows.

1. The Challenge. Do to the combination of game show competitions and reality show drama, this show is probably the number one show we love to watch. After a particularly chaos filled season came to end, we found ourselves binge watching seasons from years ago when Johnny Bananas was not even relevant. You know, many many many years ago. It is reality tv gold.

2. Chicago (anything). PD, Fire, Med. I am eternally obsessed with them all. I had never watched them and somewhere around season 4 Michael suggested I give Chicago Fire a chance, I was hooked. We bought and watched all of the seasons on iTunes then quickly became fans of the Chicago PD spin off (which is actually now our favorite). We even liked the short lived Chicago Justice and I dabble in Chicago Med which Michael doesn’t partake in.

3. Orange is the New Black. I am notorious for watching the new seasons within the first few days of them coming out though I am slacking severely as I have not even started to watch the new one. But this show was hugely successful from the beginning and while many fans have fallen off lately, I am still on board.

4. Shameless. This show has never disappointed. It always leaves you wanting more of the Gallagher family shit show. If nothing else, it has to make you feel somewhat better about your own family drama.

5. Grey’s Anatomy. I have been a day one fan and while I got a little over it a few seasons ago, I am back on the train. I just cannot get enough of some of the characters that I have grown to love over time. The show has so much medical, drama, romance, and thrill. It is the greatest medical drama since ER.

6. 13 Reasons Why. I know, I know – you’re tired of hearing about it but I am so very in love with this series. Sounds morbid I get it. Struggling with mental illness is serious, the issues in this show are so serious. But to me, it brings so much light to the reality of the struggles everyone faces whether you know they are struggling or not. Nothing can take that away from the creators.

7. The Affair. Seriously, I love and hate this show at the same time. I sometimes hate that it showed the same scenes twice in different perspectives, but I just am addicted to trying to figure out WHY ON EARTH all of these men are so obsessed with Alison. I do not at all see her appeal so I must keep watching until I figure it out.

8. Star. She is my spirit animal. Enough said. Literally.

9. Law and Order: SVU. I think the most impressive part of this show is the staying power. So many crime shows exist, so many have come and gone, but this one is coming up on twenty seasons. Not to mention, Olivia Benson is the O.G. badass.

10. The Bold Type. These three young ladies are #goals. From their unbreakable bond to their blossoming careers – I just love to watch it all unfold.

There are many other shows that I watch that I couldn’t actually end with just those ten options, so I narrowed them down to slightly smaller lists based on type. Because I am a TV watching loser like that. Some of them may no longer be coming on but are still good options on a rainy day. Someone get me a hobby.
