egg-citing Easter basket ideas

The time has come to fill those little baskets with treats for your babes. I’ve created a guide sharing the ins and outs of our Easter basket for this year! With help from some of my friends, I was able to put together two really sweet baskets that I know my kids will love!

Let me start this by saying that every parent is different. It’s okay that we don’t all do the same thing for every holiday.

It is okay if you don’t do Easter baskets.
It is okay if you do simple Easter baskets.
It is okay if you do extravagant Easter baskets.
It is okay if you do candy filled Easter baskets.
It is okay if you do learning game filled Easter baskets.

We’re all parenting the best way we know how and that isn’t always going to be the same. There is no judgement here. I’m simply sharing what works for myself and my family hoping that it will give you and idea or two for your own family.

Containers

First you must contain your goodies! We’ve used wicker baskets and these liners (Pottery Barn Kids) for a few years now. I quickly grab them after the excitement is over and store them away to ensure they don’t end up covered in toddler before we need them again.

I originally wanted to use something unconventional like rain boots for their baskets this year. Quickly coming to the realization that their feet are too small to fit much inside the boot. Other cute ideas include a storage tote that can then be used in their room, a bucket for outside play, a sports helmet for upcoming recreational play, the bed of a dump truck, and so many other things!

Cushioning

It is always a good idea to cushion the container you are using with a little something. Whether it be the standard Easter grass which comes in an array of colors, shredded paper, or something usable like a blanket.

I went with the typical Easter grass, mainly because I managed to save some from our baskets last year and have it on hand already.

Stuffing

Here’s where it gets fun. I’m a big fan of the Target Dollar Spot (as is most of the world) for goodies to put inside, but we’ll get to that later. First let’s talk about the bigger items I’m stuffing baskets with this year.

Lone Cone

Gifting things that are usable after the holiday rush is over has been one of my most coveted parenting tricks. With two toddlers that LOVE to wear their rain boots everywhere we go, it was an obvious choice with the April showers heading our way.

I was lucky enough to receive these adorable Lone Cone rain boots in my pattern of choice for each of the kids. With so many patterns and colors to choose from, it was quite a tough decision! Ultimately I went with ‘camo-saurus‘ for my dinosaur obsessed little guy and ‘gary the unicorn‘ for my little lady. Now they can empty their ‘baskets’ and put them on their feet for months of use!

Botterblomme

Both of my kids love fun and comfy socks. My friends at Botterblomme have the most adorable safari zoo socks with non-skid rubber bottoms that I just had to throw in there. The best part about making a purchase through Botterblomme is that 20% of sales are donated to animal conversation. Such an amazing idea!

When making your purchase use promo code ‘QUEENBEE’ for a buy one, get one deal on any of the Safari Zoo Socks available!

Blabla Kids

I’ve spoke of this amazing shop before and will forever. Blabla Kids creates the softest, most cuddly handmade dolls you’ll ever find. They’re made from 100% natural fibers and are completely hand stitched. It’s impressive what these artisans are able to create!

Two of their adorable bunny options – Fleur and Pierre were must haves for me but there are so many other options to pick from!

Books

I am guilty of buying each kiddo a holiday themed book for every holiday, every year. We read a lot so it keeps me sane to be able to read different books instead of the same one everyday. As the holidays draw closer I like to pick up a themed one that suits their current interest and reading level.

These are the two that I went with this year – How to Catch the Easter Bunny and Honey Bunny. Both were purchased from Target. We will read these for a few days following Easter before I put them away, then bring them back out in the days leading up to Easter next year.

Target Dollar Spot

I’m obviously not sponsored by the Target Dollar Spot, but I think we can all agree that they have some of the most inexpensive goodies. For my kids baskets I stopped and grabbed one of everything, just kidding, kind of.

We love to play with chalk, so these little buckets ($1) were an obvious choice. I also grabbed a little notepad ($1), a pack of markets/highlighters ($3 and I split the pack between the kids), bath bombs and fizzes ($1), bath finger paint ($1), play foam ($1), and a few candy options.

With everything I buy, I grab the same item for each kid to limit the ability of fighting over. While they will still manage to fight over something, this at least ensures that they both have the same goodies.

Hopefully this has helped to give you some ideas for your own kid’s Easter baskets! Be sure to follow along on ig @queenofthebeehive to see what else I have up my sleeve.
