exploring James City County Marina

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Founder’s District for IZEA Worldwide. All opinions are 100% mine.

The warm weather is right around the corner and it’s time to start planning your summer trips. I love finding the hidden gems in our area to explore with my littles. Whether that be parks, lakes, historical sites, etc., we’re always looking for an outdoor adventure when the beautiful weather hits!

Because of this I have partnered with The Founders District to share about the local areas you can visit to learn more about the American story. It’s so important to bring your kids along on adventures that not only feed their physical health, but also provide them with a wealth of knowledge. Below is a map of the eight destinations that make up the Founders District. Each area is special and deserves its own visit.

We’re going to be focusing on the James City County Marina located in Williamsburg, VA. This marina is located on the Powhatan Creek near Jamestown Settlement and Historic Jamestowne. It comes equipped with a 24 hour boat ramp as well as a marina store (open daily 8am-4pm). There are fees that apply.

The marina is the perfect location for an outdoor family to spend a few days. There are quite a few amenities that allow your whole family to remain entertained and active.

Bring your bikes (or rent some) to take a ride along the Colonial Parkway to Yorktown and back. Kayak along the Powhatan Creek where Captain John Smith traveled before settling on Jamestown Island. Try your hand at paddle boating or even take a pontoon boat tour. Stop by the marina store for bait and tackle to try your hand at fishing.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to activities at James City County Marina. If you pack a lunch to bring along with you, you could spend the day exploring each amenity without having to worry about location food. Though I definitely suggest stopping by the marina store for an ice cream to celebrate the day!
