I never had a ton of female friends growing up. Whether it was because I was too shy or others did not take well to me, I am not too certain.
When I did hangout with them we did basic things like attend school activities (dances and sporting events), then dinner and movies, then as we got older we would explore the bar scene.
Once I became a wife and mom, it was much harder to make friends because the amount of time you spend out socializing diminishes.
After joining the local MOMS Club, I found my tribe. Our time together looks a little different these days with lots of library classes and play dates to stay connected.
But we also recognize the value of getting our own time, as women, to go out and remember that we are more than just wives and moms. Coming up with things to do now can be a little more difficult. There are time constraints, scheduling challenges with your spouse, the need for a sitter, etc. etc. etc.
After the last few months of MOMS night in/out with our club, I have compiled a list of our favorite things to do when we get a chance to get out and have fun!
Game night. Grab a group of your friends and invite them over. Have each person bring a game, a bottle of wine, and a snack. Spend the evening sharing yummy snacks, refreshing drinks, and the silliest laughs.
Paint night. Locate your closest business hosting a paint night, pick the painting that is most appealing, and head out. These are usually guided by a professional that will help you as little or as much as you would like. The goal is not to create a masterpiece but to mimic and put your own spin on the original image.
Dessert and wine. Find a local restaurant with a great dessert menu. Grabbing dessert and wine with your best girls combines all the best components. If everyone gets something different, you will get to taste test all the different things the menu has to offer.
Tea party. You would be shocked how many places near you host a high tea. When we started looking, there were AT LEAST six different establishments to check out. We picked the most appealing one, then scheduled a high tea. Everyone put on their best dresses, some lace gloves, and a floppy hats to enjoy a mix of tiny sandwiches, scones, fruit, salads, soups, and different types of tea. I have never felt so feminine and so catered to.
Spa. This is an obvious choice. Whether you enjoy a mani, pedi, massage, facial, etc. the spa is the greatest place to get together and relax. Bonus points if the spa has a hydrotherapy circuit.
Concerts. Live music is ALWAYS fun. Whether it is a huge celebrity or a local small time band. Find a local spot to check out or pick up some inexpensive tickets to head out and enjoy.
Comedy shows. What could be more fun than a show designed to make you laugh.
Wine tasting. Heading to a local winery or having an in home tasting, there is many ways to taste some great wine while gossiping with your girls.
While there are so many other ways to hangout with your girls and have a good time – these are just a few of our favorites.
What are some of your go to’s for bonding with your girls?
