the home tour – formal living room

Tomorrow marks two weeks that we have been living in our forever(ever) home. If you haven’t already noticed, I refer to it that way because we really thought our last house was forever then it wasn’t.

In the short time that we have been here I have managed to get a few of the spaces put together and decorated. There are some very close to be finished that are waiting on a few missing pieces. Like the foyer for instance. You would think that part one of the tour would start with the foyer since it is the area you first immediately upon entry. Due to a few rugs that are on their way, we will be bypassing that until they arrive.

The first space that I’m going to share with you in the new house is the ‘formal’ living room. I put the quotations because it isn’t really formal and we aren’t really formal people. This is the area I envision us having sit downs with Lily’s future boyfriends or waiting for her to walk down the stairs to go to prom. You know.. like they do in the movies.

It was what I’d like to call, plug and play. Much of the furniture and decor was boxed up at one house and unboxed at the next. Since we’re in a new house, I will still share it. Let’s first look at the ‘before’ photo.

When you enter the house and look to your left, this is what you see. An open space, divided only by columns, with beautiful light and almost floor to ceiling windows. It’s a dream. There was not much going on which meant not much for us to change. No hideous paint color, very few holes in the walls. It was kind of a dream to move into.

The first step was a fresh coat of paint. We used Sherwin Williams ‘Rain’. The same set of furniture was put back into the room because it just fits the space so well. The couch, chair, and ottoman set was on clearance at a local furniture store for $999. It was literally a deal we couldn’t pass up.

For this gallery wall I partnered with Mixtiles which helps you put your favorite photos on tiles to create a beautiful display. The tiles are 8 inches by 8 inches with your choice of frame. Then when they arrive, you simply peel and stick them onto your wall. There’s no damage done if you decide to rearrange them, replace them, or take them with you when you move.

In our previous house we had a big window above the couch, so this time around I needed something to hang instead. I decided to take the Smallwood Home sign from our hallway and hang it here. The saying is something that resonates with me, ‘happiness is homemade’. It is no longer available but they have PLENTY more amazing ones to choose from.

Another relocated item is this blanket ladder. It used to sit on the ledge above the front door in our foyer, but since there is no ledge in the new house it needed a new home. The blankets that hung on it were a perfect match to this room so it only made sense. I found this ladder on Facebook Marketplace for free, cleaned it up and waaah laaah. That beautifully designed area rug is from HomeGoods a few years back. They never disappoint in the rug department if you ask me.

The bookshelf remained the same, while another new addition to this room was the candlesticks. I purchased them last year from Kirklands, but managed to find them again and linked them here.

That’s a wrap for the formal living room. I’m unsure of what I will share next, it will all depend on which packages ship faster than the others. So stay tuned for more and keep following along on my instagram (@queenofthebeehive) for more sneak peeks!
