Our next stop on the ‘making a house a home’ tour is one of the most used rooms in the house – the powder room. Not to be gross, but because this is the only bathroom on the main floor and we’re in potty training mode, we spend a lot of time in here.
After walking passed this ‘powder room’ sign at Joann Fabrics for $3.99 and knew it had to go on this door. I can’t find the one I purchased on their website, but here is a similar one from Magnolia.
The before photo of this room is plain, like the rest of the house was. No paint, outdated light fixture, and a plain mirror.
With the help of Sherwin Williams, we immediately upgraded this space by giving it a fresh coat of paint. I went with a color called Underseas, because I wanted a blue/green relaxed ocean vibe.
I got rid of that plain mirror and replaced it with this circular black mirror from the Project 62 line from Target. Such a simple change that made such a difference. The cubby shelf was recycled from our previous house and made for the perfect storage above the toilet.
Most of the things in the powder room were brought in from other spaces, only a few small additions were made. The multi colored basket that we’re using as a trash can was found at HomeGoods. The little ‘family’ sign on the cubby shelf is from Target Dollar Spot. Southern Jarring Co. was kind of enough to send me the beautiful mason jar soap dispenser + tooth brush holder. Since toddlers can be unpredictable, I keep a spare set of their brushes in the bathroom downstairs and it’s the perfect way to store them.
The last (and probably most dramatic) upgrade done in the half bath was the light fixture. Before we had a hideous, old world style light that was dingy and didn’t give off a lot of light. After partnering with Kichler lighting, we replaced that fixture with this Karmarie 3 light vanity light. It’s a stunning polished nickel which gives off a crisp and clean vibe, while maintaining an antique look with the hobnail pattern glass.
That’s all for the powder room, but I’ll be back again next week with the next space. As always, keep following along on my instagram for sneak peeks and exciting new things!
