The first time we walked through this house I remember the feeling of confusion when I realized it had two laundry rooms. As if being up to my eyeballs in laundry piles in one room wasn’t enough, now I had the opportunity to accumulate laundry mountains in two. What better way to make me feel like more of an underachiever?
For as long as I can remember I have dreamed of a mudroom. I don’t mean the kind of room where you walk in and dump all of your shoes + jackets on the floor. We’re talking about the kind with storage, organization, and individual cubbies for each person to use. While I was typing that I realized how old I am, dreaming of mudrooms.
The moment this house became ours I started scheming to remove the washer and dryer. I had zero use for a second laundry room and since the other one is on the second floor (hallelujah) this one had to go. After putting my thoughts together with some inspirational images from Pinterest, we came up with a plan and my FIL got to work.
He created this beautiful space for our home that looks like it’s been here all along. It ties perfectly with the rest of the house and even shares the same crown molding accents. The bench was made from a beautiful piece of wood found at an Amish market. We created four locker areas in total plus a little cubby on the end for storage. This allows everyone to get their own place to sit, hang jackets, store shoes as well as hats + gloves. I grabbed this 10 pack of farmhouse wall hooks for $12.99 on Amazon.
After a fresh coat of paint I started to round up some farmhouse pieces that I had my eye on. Once they were in place, I still felt like the room was missing something special. So, I started searching for accent wallpaper. I searched a wallpaper that wasn’t too bold and had a vintage feel that would tie in with the farmhouse vibes. Then I found this Vintage Peony Floral wallpaper from Livette’s. The floral pattern was just enough to make it interesting, but the faint grey color was light enough to not overpower the room. It was perfect. The kind folks at Livette’s sent this over to complete the space and I have never loved a wallpaper more.
The rest of the accent pieces were hung up, the little odds + ends were added to the shelves, and a small-ish area rug put down. I grabbed this farmhouse light fixture (in a pack of two) on Amazon also. The white baskets across the top are from Michaels a few years ago, while the brown wicker baskets across the bottom are from Target and current.
WAAAH LAAAH – The mudroom of my dreams is complete! I had come across a mudroom on Pinterest with the words ‘always come home’ hung up. It stuck with me so strongly since then, so I asked my friends at Little Touch of Heaven to create something similar. They did not disappoint!
