the sweetest day of the year

As a fan of the silly holidays that I see everyday, I make it a point to keep track of and celebrate them. From #dosomethingnice day to #nationaldonutday, I celebrate them all. National Day Calendar is the keeper of all the secret holidays throughout the year including National Dessert Day.

While I do love a day dedicated to donuts, I love a day that encourages me to eat all things sweet even more. This national holiday is to be celebrated on Sunday, October 14th. To prepare for a gloriously sweet day, I have put together a list of mine and my family’s favorite desserts! (recipes included)

Cookies

This is one of the most classic desserts in my opinion. From making cookies for Santa to having cookie exchanges with the MOMS Club, there is something for everyone. My taste for them ranges from triple chocolate to oatmeal raisin. I do not discriminate at all.

Frosted soft baked pumpkin
Chocolate peppermint cake
Peanut butter kiss
Oatmeal chocolate chip

Cake

Baking a cake screams celebration to me! Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and retirements are all topped off with a cake. I even make it a point to bake our dogs are cake on their birthdays. The new tradition in our family is to create a cheesecake birthday cake for Michael every year.

Frosted cinnamon coffee cake
Snickers poke cake
Carrot Cake
Strawberry poke cake

Misc.

Desserts are my jam. I would eat dessert after breakfast if I could figure out how to make it acceptable world wide. Brownies, bread pudding, cheesecake, cupcakes, pies.. I am in. All in.

Caramel apple bread pudding
Snickerdoodle cheesecake
Pumpkin bars
Oreo layer pie

With National Dessert Day on Sunday and all of the upcoming holiday meals, I am excited to try some new recipes. Do you have any secret family dessert recipes that you use? Any that you have created yourself? For me, it is all about Pinterest and a few select family recipes that have been used for years.

Happy dessert day!
