transforming a house into a home (week seven)

Last week in the transforming a house into a home series we explored the master bedroom and bathroom. I love sharing with you how you too can transform the house into home. This week we will venture into Lilys big girl room and see the changes that been made since the last time I shared it.

A nursery is a lot like a museum.

Beautifully planned, but not very functional when it comes to middle of the night play.

Almost the same day that Lily turned two, she started to climb out of her crib. It became apparent that whether we were ready or not, she needed to move.

I previously shared her bedroom in a previous week. For her second birthday in May we did a little bit of an upgrade. We made sure when she gets in and out of bed to explore she would be safe and sound.

Her room was already a beautiful color called ‘antique rose’ from Valspar. With there only being one window, it gets dark in there. I decided to break it up by painting the wall with no windows or doors. The color is called ‘icy peach’ and with floral decals I think it is the right additions to brighten it up.

We kept her convertible crib and transformed it into the toddler bed. Eventually it will become a full size bed when she is ready.

The dollhouse currently functions as a bookshelf. As Lily gets older I would love to find some furniture and use it more as a play house for her dolls and Barbies. It was a Facebook Marketplace find for $40 and is in great shape!

This beautiful chandelier is fit for a princess and was a must have in the upgraded bedroom. The home decor lines Cloud Island and Pillowfort from Target were really crucial in this bedroom upgrade. So many of the key items were picked up from there.

Aside from the love for coral I tried to add touches of light pink, mint, and gold. With lots of florals and a few mystical characters thrown in like this unicorn head.

It was important to me that the room feel very girly. The type of girly that she can enjoy now AND grow into as she gets older.

The reading nook is one of my favorite things about her room. A gold sequin canopy and throw pillows from Target, over a faux fur shag rug from Walmart. A cozy corner was easily created.

I wanted to add book shelves but struggled briefly with what to use. I didn’t want to go with standard shelves. Camden already has rain gutter shelves in his room. We had a bad experience with the little ledge shelves. So, I decided to stay with the floral theme and turn these window boxes from Walmart into book shelves.

This is the original dresser we bought for Lilys nursery. It isn’t the best quality and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, but it is doing the job which is what is important. I also purchased these curtains completely by chance for her nursery from HomeGoods. It works out so well that we stuck with the same theme AND found sheets at Target to match them.

I searched high and low for a princess feeling mirror to go above the dresser. I had given up but stumbled upon this one on Facebook Marketplace. After buying it for $25, I primed it and painted it glittery gold to match.

Lily has been very happy in her new big girl space. Despite some massive messes when she decides not to go to sleep, we haven’t had any safety issues.

I am thankful that we didn’t initially go with too much of a baby theme which allowed the transition to go smoothly. What does your little girls nursery look like? Will it transform easily into a big girl space or will you have to do a major overall?
