transforming a house into a home (week six)

The next portion of our tour is half my favorite and half my least favorite.

After having our master bathroom completely gutted (by my husband) over the course of a few months then trying to quickly + cheaply get it finished (by any contractor) then deciding not to move and designing it to our liking – I am completely obsessed with the finished product.

This has caused some serious second thought over our master bedroom. The color I chose almost three years ago was a lighter version of the master in our last house. It fits a theme, everything flows together.

I’m in the process of mentally putting together a master bedroom makeover, so be on the look out for that. But for now, let’s talk about the current space.

This bedroom set was the first furniture we picked out and ordered together. When we walked into a furniture showroom, it was set up right next to the entrance and we immediately knew we had to have it.

I love the grandiosity of the bed, though it remains simple with clean lines. Those adorable pictures hanging above the bed are from my friend at Ebenezer Market.

Through process of elimination and moving televisions to different rooms, we ended up with this one which just happened to be the one my husband built a frame for. I love having it hang on our wall as if it is a piece of art instead of a tacky looking television.

This corner of our room has changed a few times, it isn’t really finalized and I will probably continue to play with it for a while until it feels right.

Now, the moment you have all been waiting for.. probably not, but maybe. Our newly redesigned master bathroom. The barn door was just installed last week, so I haven’t had a chance to paint the piece of anchor wood yet. Prior to the remodel, we had the smallest hit-your-elbows-on-the-wall fiberglass shower insert and a 52 person (almost not an exaggeration) built in deck tub. It was ridiculous.

I decided to keep with the theme of the house choosing tans, browns, and cream tiles. This made the whole house really flow well together. As much as I love a white and grey bathroom, I felt like it would have been way too in. your. face. compared to the rest of our house.

When putting together the concept for the new bathroom, we originally wanted to get rid of a tub altogether but decided just switch it out for a more practical one.

We kept a similar size vanity but upgraded to something more our style. Replaced the faucets and mirrors. Took out the very small closet and opted for open shelving (which my husband built and I stained).

We tore out the fiberglass shower and created a 3 foot by 4 foot tiled shower instead. The tile work came out so beautifully. A shower door wasn’t picked during the planning because we wanted to see and use the finished shower prior to deciding on a sliding vs. pivot door. A decision has been made and we’re in the process of having it installed now.

The faux wood floor tile is easily my favorite feature in the room. With the open shelving (that the contractor tried to talk me out of) coming in at a close second. Having the baskets and openness in the closet space and throughout the bathroom really helps the room feel bigger.

You will notice two more Ebenezer Market signs over the toilet. They fit so well with the vibe of the bathroom that we just had to have them in this bathroom over the others.

Are you on the grey and white bathroom train? What are your thoughts on our tan, cream, and brown scheme?

Join me next week as we take a peek into Lily’s recently remodeled ‘big girl room’.
