I’m one happy glamper!

One of the greatest gifts that I can give my children is the gift of adventure. Taking them to exciting new places whether it be as simple as a new park or as complex as a week in Disney – adventure is adventure.

I knew that I wanted to take some time with this month and get away from home. While none of us mind being home, it is much easier for me to unplug from the household to-do’s when we aren’t in our household. Outside of the house I can focus on play, enjoying our time together, and just being present instead of making a mental check list of all the chores I have to complete.

When I first contacted RVontheGo I was unsure about where I wanted to go, but I knew that I wanted to drive no more than 3-4 hours. I was looking for the basic summer amenities like a pool and/or splash pad, near the beach, with a few fun local attractions. Through this website I was able to take a look at hundreds of Encore and Thousand Trails RV campground and resorts. With so many locations to choose from I filtered the must-have amenities to find the best fit for us.

Then I stumbled upon the Bethpage Camp-Resort, situated near the Chesapeake Bay with a pool, splash pad, mini golf, with a beach-like access within four hours of home. It was perfect! I booked our four night stay and started packing!

We arrived on Monday evening and were immediately welcomed with open arms. Sally helped us to get checked in and situated, recruited a host to help us locate our cottage and have our golf cart delivered.

Our three bedroom cottage was quaint and adorable. I couldn’t wait to get settled. It came equipped with all of the essentials for the kitchen (pots and pans, plates and cups, utensils, and more) and you have the option to rent linens or bring your own. The first night we settled into our cottage, took a golf cart tour of the grounds, and grabbed ice cream at the Bethpage Mini Golf and Ice Creamery nearby. We spent the rest of the night in our cottage resting up for our week ahead.

On Tuesday we spent the morning in a rented paddle boat, then spent some time at the splash pad + pool. After it started to get a little cloudy, we changed and headed to the Virginia Aquarium in Virginia Beach. It was about a two hour drive, but because we have family there it made sense for us. After the aquarium we had dinner at a local spot called Anchor Allie’s before heading back to the camp.

We spent the full day on Wednesday at the camp-resort. Starting with a slow morning at the cottage then mini golf, followed by a couple hours at the pool. We splashed in the splash pad, floated around the multiple pools, and then had lunch at the poolside restaurant. Because my kids are equal parts go, go, go and equal parts rest + be lazy – we took a few hours back at the cottage to rest up. After a few relaxing hours we rotated around the multiple playgrounds before grabbing ice cream at the camp store.

I knew ahead of time that we would be spending one of our days at the amusement park Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. It was a quick, under an hour, drive to Williamsburg from our camp. We maintained a low pressure pace throughout the day riding all of the kid-friendly rides, playing a few games, and taking in all the yummy foods available. It was incredibly hot but the kids did such a great job at staying hydrated and keeping their cool, literally and figuratively.

If you’re looking to plan a vacation with your family soon, I definitely recommend giving RVontheGo a shot. They have so many different locations across the United States, you’re guaranteed to find the right one for you and your family!
