The season of spring brings so many things – warm weather, sunny skies, fresh cut grass, cleaning, and organizing. It is my favorite time to clean, purge, and organize all of the spaces that have been collecting all of the things over the last year. Especially this year long period in which we’ve been home and holding on to more stuff than normal.
We recently condensed the basement playroom and the sunroom into one space. Instead of having the kids splitting their time between the two rooms, it made a lot more sense to have all of their things in one. With that came combining a lot of different toys together.
Because of that I will be focusing on our playroom organization labels. After organizing all of the toys into bins I made a list of the types of toys that we have. Using Cricut Design Space I searched for a tag shape that I liked, uploaded it into my project, then copied and pasted it to create multiple tags. I typed out each of the categories that I was going to need and found a coordinating images to match.
It was important to me that the tags had words in addition to photos so that the kids could practice word recognition while putting away their toys. While searching images I made sure to find ones that clearly matched the category without being too complicated to look at. I wanted it to be very clear which category was which. Now they are able to find the correct bin for their toy and read the word that goes along with it. It is a great learning technique.
I used my Cricut Explore Air to draw the words and images on Cricut Cardstock, then cut the tag shapes. I chose Cricut Ultimate Fine Point Pens in colors that complimented the playroom colors. I used the Weeding Tool to remove the tags from the Standard Grip Mat. Once they were drawn and cut I used laminating sheets to protect them from getting damaged in the day to day play. Then I used a hole punch to remake the hole that was cut by the Cricut and added this burlap string to tie them to the playroom bins.
Here is the final product.
