it’s nerf or nothin’ – birthday party

How in the world did we just celebrate our first baby turning seven? That baffles me. I don’t want to sound cliche but it seriously feels like we brought him home yesterday. With the pandemic, we weren’t able to have a party last year so we were super excited to get that chance this year.

I wasn’t at all surprised when he requested a Nerf theme party because he’s very much into all things Nerf, target practice, and battles. I knew it would be a fun party to plan and even more fun to host. This age group (first graders) are a lot more interested in the activities than they are the decorations so I made sure to have things for them to do.

There are tons of Nerf color schemes, but I opted for an blue and orange theme for this event. Because of the color combination I also chose to have an orange and blue team for the kids. I picked up coordinating bandanas, Nerf guns, eye protection, bubble gum ‘ammo’, and placed them in these customized favor boxes from Janee’s Elite Designs.

Having a special space for the kids to sit is one of my favorite things about kids parties. I was able to partner with Mr. Moon Bounce to utilize their kids tables and chairs for our set up. The tables were covered plastic tablecloths then added craft paper over it. I set the tables in a super simple way with white plates, orange and blue cups, and custom utensil pouches (also from Janee’s Elite Designs). I didn’t want to overwhelm the party with too much of the Nerf logo, but rather the stick with color scheme itself. Packs of honeycomb balls in coordinating colors were placed down the center of the table as a sort of runner. Underneath I sprinkled our custom Nerf party confetti from Festive Fetti.

For decorations I was able to create all of the things I needed making the cost minimal. Using $1 plastic tablecloths in blue, orange, and white I created a fringe backdrop to put behind the dessert table. With scrapbook paper and my Cricut I cut the “nerf or nothin'” banner. To add some oomf to the balloon garland I used pool noodles and duct tape to make oversized Nerf bullets and toss place them into various spots. It made the garland fit the theme even more.

For desserts I used our neighbor, friend, and cake maker Fresh Taste of Bel Air, a wonderful decision for sure! She pulled together all of the things that Camden liked most and created one beautiful and perfectly curated cake. I also placed a quick order for cupcakes from the Walmart bakery with orange and blue icing. A bottle of orange, yellow, and blue Sweet Tooth Fairy sprinkles from Michaels mixed together made for the perfect topping to each. Then I added Nerf theme cupcake toppers from Amazon.

We blew up some Nerf bunkers to set up in the basement and let the kids go wild! They geared up with all of the supplies and had a blast ‘battling’ each other. I used cups, tissue paper, and prizes to create a target shooting game for the kids to play. It was such a fun time.

Feel free to share and use the ideas I have put together. I’d love to see how your parties come together. Be sure to tag me so I can follow along!
