Being able to explore the world around us is a privilege. When looking for an adventure, you don’t always have to look far when there is so much to see right outside your door. We hopped in the car for a day trip adventure to Lancaster, PA and had a blast!

Strasburg Railroad

Our first stop of the day was to the Strasburg Railroad. With various times and train car options we were able to customize our experience. We chose the Coach Car giving us comfy seats and big windows to enjoy the view. Along with the daily train rides, they offer a lot of holiday and theme events throughout the year. After your 45 minute you can take a walk through the gift shops, cafe, and playground. Grab your tickets here.

Speckled Hen

We stopped by a local kitchen, Speckled Hen, to fuel up for the day. They have lots of fresh and seasonal options for both breakfast and lunch. You can even grab some things to go from the bakery section. The kids grabbed grilled cheese and chicken tenders, while I had a delicious wrap. No matter what you grab, it is sure to exceed expectations! View their menu here.

Building Character

There is no denying that Lancaster is a perfect place to find one of a kind goods. We stopped into Building Character to do some shopping. The downtown marketplace is the largest retail shop around. They house 70+ independent shops that change periodically. See the list of shops here.

Rolled Cold Creamery

No road trip is complete without a sweet stop to top it off. Our sweet tooth was very happily satisfied at Rolled Cold Creamery. They create delicious creations, right in front of you, with fresh cream and lactose free milk from local distributors. There is also vegan options for those that require it. Read more about them here.

The kids and I had so much exploring the Lancaster, PA so much that we’re already planning our next trip. Whether you want to do something exhilarating like an amusement park (Dutch Wonderland), visit farmer’s markets for fresh goods (Bird in Hand), or just take in the stunning land – Lancaster has it!
