keep calm + carry a beautiful bag

Have you walked into a store, hotel lobby, women’s bathroom, etc. and saw at least one gal with the same bag as you? What a bummer, right?

For the past few years I have been traveling with the same bag, an oversized tote with a very common pattern. Every time I go to the airport, someone walks by toting the same. exact. pattern. Now it obviously isn’t the end of the world, but the feeling of being unique just cannot be beat.

When I spotted RSD I knew since I was already in the market for a weekend/travel bag this was the place to find one. I went straight for the travel collection to compare the different sizes ands styles. Elizabeth immediately caught my attention. She has three outside pockets and six inside pockets which is perfect for keeping things separate during travel. I also really liked that she had a full zipper closure because there is not much worse than having your bag tip over and spill out everywhere.

Once I made my choice I started the ‘design your own‘ process. The simple step by step guide allows you to click through each customization one by one without getting off track. The first decision to be made is outside fabric (the one seen when you are carrying the bag around). There is 50+ options ranging from florals to geometrics, canvas style to polka dots, stripes to animal prints. For my Elizabeth weekender I chose Watercolor Canvas for my outside fabric.

After you make this (impossible) decision, you move on to selecting your leather color. This will be the straps and handles on your bag. Rebekah Scott Designs offers three vegan leather colors to choose from. The Caramel colored leather immediately popped out as the most complimentary.

Next you are required to select a first and second lining fabric. That is the silky material inside your bag, only seen when the bag is opened up. The interior lining fabrics on my bag are called Sky Oval and Spice Farm. Then your final decision is zipper color, for which I chose the Natural color. The process of designing your own bag is just too much fun to ever go back to purchasing off the shelf.

I’m thrilled to tell you that my Elizabeth weekender bag is packed right now for a weekend in Atlantic City, NJ. With four outfits, pjs, two swimsuits, ‘unmentionables’, toiletries, makeup bag, jewelry, hair tools, AND three pairs of shoes.. THERE IS STILL ROOM FOR MORE. I was shocked and amazed all at the same time! Along with my getaway tote, I received a wristlet to accompany her. This will be helpful for carrying my essentials without having to lug my handbag with me everywhere.
