everything is awesome – kids LEGO birthday party

For years I have been waiting for Cam to choose LEGO as his birthday theme. He loves to buy them, build them, look at them, etc. but year after year he went with something else. This year, his 8th birthday, he finally did it! We had a LEGO birthday! Let me just tell you that planning a kids LEGO birthday party is so much fun! Some of our previous party themes include construction, dinosaurs, NERF, and kitty.

I knew immediately that I was going to plan the party around primary colors and LEGO patterns. Much of what I found for the party came from Oriental Trading Company. They have a variety of LEGO products such as popcorn boxes, napkins, plates, utensils, party favors, tablecloths, and so much more for a kids LEGO birthday party. I complimented the layout with coordinating garlands, confetti, printable coloring sheets, etc. Festive Fetti created the most adorable confetti to match, while Forrest and Meadow built us a custom garland. There are a lot of party invitation options to be found online and we opted for a LEGO box look alike invite from Etsy.

Party favors aren’t my favorite especially when they’re dollar store junk that won’t be useful. For this LEGO party we put together favors with glasses, brick gummies and lollipops, and pop-its. Everything was in coordinating party colors and tucked into a LEGO brick pattern box.

Kids are usually happy to run around and be silly, but having planned activities is a great way to keep things moving. It gives them something to focus on and can be a way to earn prizes throughout. I put together a LEGO version of the egg and spoon race and filled a ‘guess how many’ jar with LEGOS for a little competitive fun. Then set out personalized coloring sheets with crayons and a mini-fig creation station (that they were able to keep after).

I used the brick tablecloths to cover our tables then rolled out kraft paper to break up the bold and add some neutral color. The tables were set with a personalized placemat, brick pattern napkins, then brick straw cups and utensils. Cardboard bricks were placed down the middle as a sort of centerpiece. Each guest had their own space to color, eat, drink, and enjoy the event.

We had the birthday cake made to look like a mini-fig head which Cam designed the face of. It’s always so much fun to see our ideas comes to life by our sweet friend and neighbor. I always ordered bulk cupcakes from Walmart because they’re inexpensive and delicious. The cupcake toppers were made with card stock on my Cricut. I filled our ‘yum’ try with blue, green, and red Sixlets. The spread consisted of fruits, vegetables, meats + cheese, pretzels, and popcorn to go along with the pizza we ordered.

I crafted the LEGO letters with paper mache letters, wood rounds, and spray paint. They were easily one of my favorite crafts of all time. This was a super fun party to plan and even more fun to attend! Now it’s onward to the next party for my girl in May!
