The day that football season starts, Sundays are taken over.
Friends and family everywhere gather together to spend the day in front of the television cheering on their favorite team and booing their rival. It becomes a day for football, friends, family, and most importantly to me.. food.
In our house, Sundays during football season become a day for great food you wouldn’t normally prepare. Food we have dubbed as ‘football food’. I am most often responsible for cooking up these yummy foods while the rest of my clan are cheering on the touchdowns of our favorite team, the Cowboys (and the Packers for me when they play the Cowboys).
Since football season officially starts this Sunday, I decided to gather some of our favorite sports related dishes to get you started this year.
Chicken wings
Chicken wings are always an easy go to for football watching. Whether you like honey garlic (like this recipe), buffalo, garlic parmesan or any of the MANY. MANY. flavors – there are quick to whip up. With multiple preparation options, you can really add your own touch.
Meatball sliders
You can easily make baked meatball sliders (like this recipe that we use) or throw all the meatballs in a slow cooker served with rolls and cheese. Meatballs are an easy, inexpensive essential party treat.
Corn dogs
My kids LOVE corn dogs and even more when they are corn dog bites. This recipe here shows you how to make the cutest little bites with a cupcake pan. They are handheld and a lot easier for little hands than a regular sized corn dog in a stick.
Buffalo chicken dip (stuffed french bread)
At the last football party we hosted, I served this buffalo chicken dip stuffed french bread and it was a hit. It had the rich dip taste but came served in a crispy bread which took out the step of having to dip something in it. Like a one stop shop for dip.
Macaroni and cheese bites
Again with the cupcake pan, you prepare macaroni and cheese then scoop it into the pan (as shown here) and bake. It transforms into a handheld bite size way to eat a classic comfort food. This is always a win with kids.
Taco dip
Anything to do with a cheese dip is usually a favorite of mine. This queso taco dip is super simple to make since it just requires you to throw things into a slow cooker. After it was raved over at our first football party together. Ever since, it is a staple on the menu for our events.
What does football Sunday look like in your house? Do you prepare special food or just stick with a regular menu? What are some of your favorite football foods?
I’d love to hear all about it!
