gotta catch ’em all – Pokémon party

When I tell you that I was not expecting a Pokémon party request from my daughter – I mean it. She came home from the first months of 1st grade wanting to cash in her allowance for Pokémon cards and binders to hold them all. Next thing I knew – we’re having a Pokémon birthday party.

I immediately took to Pinterest for some inspiration. I found an image with four of the iconic characters in a fun palette of colors. The four colors were now the scheme I built the party around. With a mix of Pokémon characters, fun patterns, and colors – the vision board for a vibrant Pokémon party was built.

For me, the beginning steps of putting together a party always includes a flatlay. I pull together the plates, cups, napkins, and accessories that I’m planing to put on the table and see how that feels together. I added our custom confetti (Festive Fetti) and felt garland (Forrest and Meadow) which brought the look together.

Creating useful party favors can be a challenge, but something that is really important to me. I hate sending our little guests home with things that will get thrown out immediately. The kids always weigh in and help me decide. We opted for mini Pokémon theme play dough kits. I grabbed the supplies from Michaels, Amazon, and Walmart. I also made candy kabobs with treats matching the scheme. However it’s a 0/10 for me – I didn’t love putting them together.

I pulled together a bunch of cake stands, tiered stands, and containers that we have on hand. Then set the cake table up with a store bought cake and cupcakes (which I added decorations to), Pokémon graham crackers with a confetti dip, and the candy kabobs. Then I decorated it with a balloon garland, Pokémon foil balloons, garlands, and custom name letters.

We set up the tables and chairs then decorated then with coordinating pieces, added the two party favors to each setting, sprinkled the gorgeous confetti down the middle, and topped the table with honeycombs to add a little something. It quickly became such a bright and happy place to be!

The kids have so much fun playing with the play dough kits, making friendship bracelets, and having their turn at the piñata. Though the Pokémon theme was really, very out of my purview – I feel like we were really able to put together such a fun party that hit the mark without being too much. What’s the most surprising theme your kids have ever thrown at you?
